General

What areas does True Trowel cover?

We cover Ossett, Wakefield, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Halifax, Dewsbury, York, Harrogate, Sheffield, Manchester and surrounding areas within 50 miles of Ossett, West Yorkshire. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, just ask — we're flexible.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes, all quotes are completely free and come with no obligation. You can request a quote by phone, email, WhatsApp or through our online contact form. We'll discuss your project, provide an honest assessment, and give you a clear, itemised quote.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, True Trowel carries full public liability insurance for complete peace of mind on every project we undertake. We're also Checkatrade verified, which means our work has been independently assessed and approved.

How long does a typical project take?

It depends on the scope of work. A bathroom retiling typically takes 2-3 days, a full room plastering takes 1-2 days, and a media wall installation takes 3-5 days. We'll give you an accurate timeline with your free quote, and we always stick to the schedule we agree.

Do you provide the materials?

Yes, we can supply all materials including tiles, plaster, timber, insulation boards and fixings. Alternatively, if you've already purchased your own materials, we're happy to work with what you have. We'll advise on what's needed during the quoting process.

Tiling

What types of tiling do you do?

We fit all types of tiles including ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, metro bricks and large-format tiles. We tile bathrooms, kitchens, hallways, wet rooms and conservatories. Whether it's a full floor-to-ceiling job or a small splashback, we approach every project with the same care and precision.

How much does bathroom tiling cost?

The cost of bathroom tiling depends on the size of the area, the type of tiles, and whether it's walls, floors or both. We provide free, no-obligation quotes tailored to your specific project. Contact us for an accurate price — there's no pressure and no hidden costs.

Do you remove old tiles?

Yes, we handle the full process from start to finish — removing old tiles, preparing the surface, and fitting the new ones. We'll also dispose of all waste and leave your home clean and tidy at the end of each day.

Plastering & Rendering

What's the difference between skimming and plastering?

Skimming is a thin coat of plaster applied over existing plaster or plasterboard to create a smooth, paint-ready finish. Full plastering involves applying a base coat (bonding or browning) followed by a skim coat, typically needed when walls are in poor condition or have been stripped back to bare brick.

Do you do external rendering?

Yes, we provide external rendering services across Yorkshire. This includes traditional sand and cement render, as well as modern silicone and monocouche finishes. External rendering protects your property from the elements and can dramatically improve its appearance.

Media Walls

What is a media wall?

A media wall is a built-in feature wall that typically houses a TV, fireplace, shelving and LED lighting. It's a permanent, bespoke installation that becomes the centrepiece of your living room. We design and build each one from scratch to fit your space and style perfectly.

How long does a media wall take to build?

A standard media wall installation takes 3-5 days depending on the complexity. This includes building the framework, running electrics, plastering, and decorating. We'll agree a timeline before starting and keep you updated throughout.

Thermal Insulation

How much does thermal insulation cost?

The cost depends on the size of your property and the type of insulation needed. Internal wall insulation and loft insulation are among the most cost-effective options and typically pay for themselves within a few years through lower energy bills. We offer free surveys and quotes — get in touch for an accurate price.

Will insulation make my rooms smaller?

Internal wall insulation does reduce room size slightly — typically by 50-100mm per wall. However, modern high-performance insulation boards are thinner than older materials, and the benefit of a warmer, more energy-efficient home far outweighs the minimal space loss.
